about happy prawn media
Sarah Boe is the photographer, videographer, writer, and artist behind Happy Prawn Media! She is a 2010 graduate of Montana State University’s film program in Bozeman, where she met her long-term partner and collaborator Chris Balboni (Balboni Films, Kootenai Valley Digital).
After graduating college, Sarah spent six years with a CBS affiliate in Bismarck, North Dakota, where she worked as camera operator, sports videographer, graphics operator, broadcast director, and stand-in sports anchor and producer. She later moved to a position with Bismarck’s North American Hockey League team as game night highlight videographer, as well as photographer and videographer of promotional materials.
During this time period, the prawn emerged as Sarah’s mascot. She frequently sketched these happy crustaceans in all manner of activity – offering gifts, sipping hot chocolate, suffering fevers – and left these drawings on any vulnerable blank sheet of paper where friends, family, and coworkers might find them. It wasn’t long before she became known as “the happy prawn,” and to this day, old friends noticing prawns on their dinner menus tend to send her a quick message to say hello.
With a passion for travel, Sarah continues to nurture her skills by pointing her lenses at everything, everywhere, as much as possible. She shoots travelogues for fun and writes extensively about her experiences. A storyteller at heart, she loves finding, creating, and preserving these stories with all of the artistic tools in her arsenal. In 2022, Sarah decided to pursue independent work – her dream job of offering these skills and services to others.
Sarah lives in Troy, Montana with Chris Balboni and their two cats, Mojave and Noaa.
